Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why isn’t my candle  smooth when it’s not lit?

A: This is a unique feature of 100% soy wax. Soy wax is a natural, clean burning wax and doesn’t contain additives that create a smooth top. This will affect the quality or performance of the candle.

Q: Why doesn’t my candle burn to the edges of the jar?

A: When your candle doesn’t burn to the edges of the jar it’s called tunneling. It is very important to burn your candle approximately 2-4 hours or until you have a full melt pool (wax melted to the edge of the jar) before you blow your candle out. If you do this on the first burn, your candle will always have an even burn throughout the life of the candle.

Q: How do I limit the amount of smoke coming from my candle?

A: It’s very important to trim the wick to a 1/4” before each burn. Always cut or knock off the burnt mushroom top of the wick even if it doesn’t need to be cut.

Q: Why is there black soot on the candle jar?

A: Soot is caused by incomplete combustion of the carbon in the wax with the oxygen present in the air. Below are the different factors behind the formation of candle soot.

  • Keep wicks trimmed short.  Trim to a 1/4 inch before each burn. A longer wick will convey excessive fuel and produce more soot.

  • Candles near doorways or traffic areas are subject to drafts and turbulence, producing more soot.

  • Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

Q: How do I stop my soy candle from smoking when I blow it out?

A: All of our candles come with a lid. The lid can ge used to cover the candle once you blow it out.

Q: Why does my candle frost (turn powder white) on the top?

A: Talulah Co. candles are 100% soy wax. Frosting is a natural effect. It does not affect the way your candle burns or smells.

Q: Why doesn’t my reed diffuser smell anymore?

A: Reed diffuser sticks should be flipped weekly to carry the best fragrance. Sticks should be replaced every 2 months or so. We sell additional sticks on our website.
